We spoke with Marcus about his trainee journey—and what it’s like to explore multiple asset classes under one roof.

At Niam, we believe talent is one of our most important assets. That’s why we continue to invest in driven, analytical professionals with a global outlook and a passion for real assets. Marcus Overödder joined Niam as an Analyst in 2024 as part of our structured rotational program for newly graduates. While the employment is permanent from day one, the first year is designed to provide broad exposure across our three investment platforms—Credit, Infrastructure, and Real Estate—before transitioning into a permanent team placement.

Marcus, tell us a bit about your background and how you ended up at Niam.

I have a Master’s in Real Estate and Construction Management from KTH, and I spent part of my studies on exchange at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, focusing on global real estate markets. Before Niam, I interned within the transaction team at Nrep and worked part-time as a finance assistant at Larenius & Partners. I’ve always been interested in how finance and the built environment interact—so Niam’s multi-strategy platform investment approach immediately appealed to me.

You joined as an Analyst but also participated in the trainee program. How does that work?

The first year follows a defined rotation plan across Credit, Infrastructure, and Real Estate. It’s a great way to get hands-on experience with all our platforms, understand how the teams work, and build a strong internal network before settling into a specific focus area.

What made Niam stand out as a place to build your career?

The combination of deep local knowledge and strong institutional capability was a big draw. But more than that, I appreciated Niam’s willingness to let me explore where my strengths and interests fit best. That kind of trust and exposure early on isn’t something you find everywhere and that kind of openness is rare early in your career.

What has it been like growing into the role?

It’s been both steep and rewarding. I’ve had the chance to contribute to live deals and support the team on analysis and execution. Because I already had exposure to all three platforms, I felt much more prepared and confident taking on more responsibility. It’s definitely a place where you learn by doing.

With international study experience and a broad investment rotation, what’s one thing you’ve taken with you?

That no matter the asset class, collaboration is key. Whether I was working on credit underwriting, infrastructure due diligence, or real estate acquisitions, the common denominator was teamwork. Being part of different teams helped me build a more adaptive and open mindset, which I think is essential in a multidisciplinary investment environment.

What advice would you give someone thinking about applying to Niam’s trainee program?

Don’t hesitate. If you’re curious, driven, and open to learning, it’s a unique chance to explore different investment verticals and see where you can thrive. You’ll work with incredibly talented people and gain practical experience that accelerates your development from day one.
